I watched a show on television the other day (yes television, it was a holiday and it was educational :)). It was called Naked Science on the National Geographic Channel and it talked about SETI and the scientific programs throughout the world that are “listening” for possible communications from space. Yes, listening, using satellites, for any sort of radio wave or sound signal that could demonstrate to us that there is intelligent life “out there.” I know that I am not an astronomer or scientist, however, I do not understand how some of the brightest minds in the world could be so egotistical to think that if there were any other life out there, that they would want to contact us, or that even if they did, that they would do so using some primitive technology that even we consider to be somewhat old.

If you believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution, than you would believe that people have eyes because eyes are necessary for us to live and evolve on this planet. The same goes for our ears, nose, mouth, hands, feet, etc. On some other far away planet, however, where everything is probably completely different, what makes us think they would even have a mouth to talk out of, eyes to “see” with, or ears to “hear” our communication attempts? Maybe they are so far advanced that eyes and ears are primitive communication tools to them.

Or, to take it a step further, maybe what we consider death and “ascending to heaven,” as many religions believe, is actually a story of evolution that had been passed on to us from other planets? Maybe when we “evolve” out of our current physical forms, we become like spirits, not bound to this physical planet or the laws of space, time and physics, as they are currently known to us. Kind of like the fish that grew feet to crawl out of the ocean. Could aliens be watching us and waiting for us to “crawl” out of the earth before we can have a decent conversation with them?

Well, I am rambling, and again, I am no astronomer or scientist. What I have written here should definitely not be taken as fact or even theory, simply early morning ramblings. I am just an average guy with a crazy imagination. I guess the reason for my writing this entry is because I would love to see people begin to truly think not only outside the box, but also outside the body. I am not sure where we got the idea that we are the greatest things that ever happened to the universe or that who, what, or how we currently are is the way we are to be.

If we truly want to communicate, or “hear” messages from advanced alien civilizations, than I think we need to open our minds to the possibility that their communications may be coming in forms that we have yet to be able to understand. For all we know, we may be surrounded by their messages but are unable to “hear” them.
