While searching the web for information regarding local transportation systems, I came across this press release about how Riverside, California is offering free bus rides to its residents on New Year's Eve. Well, instead of trying to explain it to you, let me just post their press release. There is a link to the actual release at the end of this entry as well. Enjoy!
RIVERSIDE, CA — December 9, 2005
Riverside Transit Agency To Offer Free Bus Service On New Year’s Eve In an effort to keep people safe this holiday season, the Riverside Transit Agency will offer free bus service on all 38 fixed routes beginning at 6 p.m. on December 31. The free fare will run until the end of each bus schedule on that day.
RTA’s Board Chairman and San Jacinto Councilman Jim Ayres said the free rides are not only designed to keep people safe on New Year’s Eve, but also a way of saying thank you to passengers who ride all year.
“The free rides are a great way to support passengers who will be working on New Year’s Eve or who do not want to drive that evening,” Ayres said.
Because the majority of RTA’s routes don’t run much later than 8 p.m., the service is ideal for those who plan to head home early, or for those who are heading out for the night and have alternative transportation plans for their return trip home.
RTA’s buses will operate on their Sunday schedules on January 1. If a route doesn’t operate on a Sunday schedule, then there will not be any service on that day.
The Riverside Transit Agency provides public transportation for Western Riverside County, operating 38 fixed routes, 5 commuter routes and 15 demand response services. RTA’s service area spans 2,500 square miles, the second-largest in the nation. For bus route and schedule information contact RTA at (800) 800- 7821 or log on to our Web site at www.RiversideTransit.com.
