Someone recently said a beautiful phrase to me, “Mele Kalikimaka.” This phrase takes the best of two worlds and turns it into this tasty treat for your tongue. No, I don’t mean to eat, but to say. Mele Kalikimaka (pronounced phonetically) means Merry Christmas in Hawaii, which, by the way is an amazing place to spend the entire holiday season. I am convinced it’s where Santa goes when he’s all done and ready to take off that suit. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him there a few times.
Even though I love saying Mele Kalikimaka, just hearing those words makes me want to break out and start singing the song. If you don’t know what song I am referring to, I’ve pasted the lyrics for you below. You can also find out a lot more about Mele Kalikimaka and even hear the song by visiting MeleKalikimaka.com!
So, although I truly enjoy getting those Happy Holidays greetings, I would absolutely love to hear some Mele Kalikimakas. And if you’re up for it, singing the song would be nice too!
Mele Kalikimaka Lyrics
Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day
That's the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway
Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun to shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way
To say "Merry Christmas to you."
