I visited Argentina
in September 2005 and was absolutely amazed by some of the glasswork that
my aunt and her husband were doing. The earrings shown on this page for example
were created using Vitro Fusion, a method of melting glass together at temperatures
reaching 812 degrees Celsius (or 1,493.6 degrees Fahrenheit for those of
us in the states!) When I saw these pieces, I immediately thought "These
would do great on e-Bay!" So, that is exactly what I did. I brought
these back and put them on e-Bay. Needless to say, there were plenty of others
here in the states that found these as attractive as I do and they sold very
quickly. Due to the positive feedback we received, I am planning another
trip back to Argentina in 2006 in order to bring back some more. If you have
any special requests, please
email me, I would be happy to take them.
My aunt and her
husband, who reside in Tucuman, Argentina, a fairly big small town in the
Northwestern part of Argentina, started using this technique a few years
ago as a hobby and have recently turned it into full time work. Just in time
too as they just had their first baby! Each piece is individually made. There
is no machine work in the glass at all. All pieces are one-of-a-kind. If
you'd like to learn more, you can visit
their web site (please note, it is in spanish), or you can email
me and I will keep you informed of any news. I will be putting together
a web site for them in english and soon as I return with more pieces.
