As many of you may already know, Nestle, Cargill and Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) are currently in court defending themselves against allegations of child trafficking, child torture, and even child slavery. If you find these acts as atrocious as I do, please remember that if you plan to buy chocolate this Easter, to make them Fair Trade chocolates.
As you are wandering the aisles of your favorite store trying to decide which easter bunny looks the tastiest, plase ask yourself, "What would Jesus buy?" Do you think he would buy the chocolate bunnies made from cocoa produced using slave child labor? Or would he purchase chocolates produced using practices considered fair for those who produce it and distribute it? If you chose the latter, I have great news for you... there are plenty of places to find fair trade chocolate. Whole Foods and Trader Joes, for one, have plenty of them, just look for the Label. You can also check out this list of Fair Trade-certified chocolate brands, importers and distributors and for products and brand names to keep an eye out for while shopping at the store. Or, visit the TransFair USA “Where to Buy” page and search by zip code or browse the directory to find a store that carries certified products near you, or you can simply click on over to the Global Exchange Fair Trade store online that has Easter Baskets and more for any occasion.
